Website & Description of Yourself
www.fengshuiliving.com.au
I am the principle consultant of Feng Shui Living and am considered Australia's Leading Feng Shui consultant. I founded the Association of Feng Shui consultants (www.afsc.org.au) in 2005 and am now in my 5th year as President. It is a non profit association formed with the objective to define, promote and maintain a high level of regulation and standards in the practice of Feng Shui, and to ensure the Feng Shui profession has an outstanding reputation within Australia. We are now accepting members worldwide. I have been consulting full time for the last six years.
How did you come to learn about Feng Shui?
I have always loved houses. As a child, my mother would take me to look at properties on weekends and we would constantly change furniture around. I was always amazed at how changing the environment could change our moods. I then came across a book on Feng Shui and started to implement things. In 2002, I then decided to study professionally... the rest is history!
Please share your path of learning Feng Shui with us?
Sure. I came across a course in Australia run by a college called "The Australian College of Environmental Studies" (www.aces.edu.au). They have an excellent course that took me one year to complete. I then continued my studies with Master Joseph Yu and obtained my Higher Diploma with him. After that I then decided I needed to learn Four Pillars of Destiny and decided to fly to Singapore and study with Grand Master Raymond Lo. I have also gained qualifications as a certified trainer and I now teach Advanced Feng Shui for the Australian College of Environmental Studies and have done so for the past three years. I find this keeps you on your toes and ensures you keep up to date with your learnings. I believe Feng Shui is a life long study and I will continue to do this.
What made you turn Feng Shui into your profession?
Study that is :) As soon as I started studying Traditional Feng Shui, I just knew it was what I was meant to do with my life. Within a week of graduating, I had my website up and running. It was meant to be and I have never looked back. I absolutely love working with people and the best part of what I do is receiving positive feedback from my clients.
Are you family and friends supportive of your decision to take on Feng Shui as a profession?
My family and friends were fantastic. I come from an extremely supportive family and it was actually my husband who suggested I study Feng Shui so he is brilliant! My children also love it and always tell me they can feel the Chi ;).
What are your most applied schools of Feng Shui?
Form and Flying Star School in addition to incorporate Four Pillars in every consultation. So basically Classical and Traditional Feng Shui.
Were you taught of a few schools of Flying Star Feng Shui?
I have found the basics to be similar, however some of the interpretations differ. I use Xuan Kong.
To some people I have talked about Feng Shui, the deeper they go into Feng Shui studies, the more confused they are. During your learning journey, did you ever encounter that and how did you overcome it?
I think before I actually started studying Classical Feng Shui, it was very confusing. However, the course I first did have an excellent foundation which was a huge help. There are lots of differing opinions even with Classical Feng Shui, however it makes them easier to understand when you have a good foundation. I think that is the key. Also experimenting is important. I believe any good consultant will experiment and know what works prior to recommending it to a client. Don't just accept what you hear or read, test it and know for yourself.
How receptive to Feng Shui are the people in your country or area?
It's hard to say... however business has increased amazingly from when I first started consulting. When I first started the AFSC, we had 5 members, now we have over 120. Therefore the more consultants we have, the more the word is spread so that also helps. Traditional Feng Shui was only made available in Australia about ten years ago because before that, everyone used "Black Hat", so I still think this industry has huge growth in Australia.
Do they accept your explanation?
Yes, people do not realise the details and results Feng Shui can provide.
How does "Black Hat" affect people's view on Feng Shui in your area?
They don't take Feng Shui seriously. They think it's about making your home look like a Chinese restaurant rather than analysing the distribution of energy in their home, thereby enabling them to create a supportive environment. Education is the key and that's one of the reasons I conduct lots of talks for the public and businesses.
I believe that has certainly helped to clarify the doubts?
Absolutely, in addition to the Internet.
Are there more business Feng Shui consultations or individual consultations in your area?
My business is about 50/50.
Do you think the resources available to the non-Chinese oriented practitioners are more limited as compare to the Chinese oriented practitioners?
Not any more, especially now we have the AFSC (Association of Feng Shui Consultants) as we provide a list of preferred training institutions and masters. In addition to this, the Internet is a great tool, however I highly recomment doing your homework and getting testimonals. Research is important, ask questions!
From your point of view, do you think if the knowledge of destiny analysis is important when it comes to Feng Shui?
Absolutely! Feng Shui is only one part of the puzzle so destiny analysis helps to complete it. Someone's destiny can tell you alot about their Feng Shui and the opposite is also true.
How do you compare the Four Pillars Destiny Analysis with the Western Astrology?
I have not studied Western Astrology so I can't really comment. I love Four Pillars!
Do you client ask for destiny analysis when they ask for Feng Shui service?
Not really, this is something they aren't really aware of, however once I explain it, they are very excited. People always like to know about themselves, it's human nature.
In Australia, to do a Four Pillars destiny analysis, does it require you to do any timezone adjustment to the birth time?
Yes, depending of course which area you are born in.
Did most of your clients engage in Feng Shui consulting service before they found you?
I have completed hundreds of consultations and the majority are first time, however they then become repeat clients, which is wonderful.
Did most of your clients encounter some difficulties (wealth, relationships, career, etc) in their lives before they engage Feng Shui services? If so, what is the most common problem?
I would say the majority focus on their relationships and health, whilst the rest like to increase wealth! Businesses also mainly focus on wealth. It's all about balance in the end. No use having lots of wealth with no one to share it with.
Do you do date selection for Feng Shui?
Yes.
Do you think it is crucial to have it?
I think it depends on the circumstances, however for important events, I think it works well to benefit the client.
What sort of date slection methods do you practice?
I use the Almanac in addition to someone's Four Pillars.
Do you practice any kind of Yin Feng Shui? Did any of your clients engage you for Yin Feng Shui audit?
No, I have not studied it and never had anyone asked. I think it would be interesting. I would call in an expert for this :). Same for date selection, I have consultants that are more experience than me in that field.
Do consultants in Australia perform Yin House Feng Shui?
Yes, we do have some.
Do you mind sharing your Feng Shui audit service work-flow? And what about after sales services?
When a client contacts me, I request floor plans, the age of the property and a completed questionaire. I then go onsite to the property to determine compass directions and talk through the analysis with the client. A written report is then delivered. I offer continual after sales service until I am confident my client is satisfied with the work completed. I am always available to my clients, there is no time limit.
How long does it usually take to complete a case?
I usually spend about 2-3 hours onsite and then the report takes about 3-4 hours. However, this can vary depending of course on the size of the property.
Do you practice telling some of the past events happened in the premises when you are performing the audit?
Yes, I find this works really well with clients and it also helps to verify the chart of the home, especially if there have been any renovations or they are unsure on the build date.
What are your future plans on taking Feng Shui as a career?
My plans are to continue consulting because I love helping people and I will continue to work with AFSC to expand the knowledge of Traditional Feng Shui in Australia. For you to do this, you have to have a passion for this field and I understand that.
Which master or school of Feng Shui influenced you the most?
Ummm, good question but it is hard to pick just one as I gained so much knowledge from all of them which in turn has made me a good consultant. I have them all to thank.
